Zapping the zero

No running from Thursday till today. I was going to take Friday off, but that dragged me until today, Saturday I just felt sluggish, and on Sunday I just was afraid due to the robbery problems. I felt guilty the whole weekend and was paranoic because I thought that I had lost fitness. That was not the case, but I surely did not gain any fitness either. So 4 runs last week, the goal is 6 times per week of running.

Today I headed out to the park at 6:15 p.m. without a watch and just ran easy for 5 laps. In the last lap I incorporated 4 x 20 seconds or so, I did not have a watch, but I played it by ear and I think that I ran the strides harder than I should since I had a Bethoven musical with my breathing. Very loud and out of control. Doing strides I can realize how out of shape I am, but We are here to learn and improve and I ll include those on a regular basis.

While the breathing was out of control, my legs felt very smooth and fast and did not feel heavy today eventhough I have been eating like a pig in the last few days. We will see what tomorrow brings!!

" Long run"

Today I wanted to run a bit longer tha usual so I headed out to the conservatory earlier than normal.

I got there in 7:44, then did 7 laps in 6:22,6:08,6:07,6:04,6:03,5:58,5:50. Obviously I wore a watch today, finished in 52 mins what I think was 8.5k. Heck, that was my normal run months ago, today I struggled in the last lap.

I was not sure about how many laps I was going to do, I just wanted to run very easy at the beginning and then wait that the pace come to me. Basically, that was what happened, the last lap felt the same pacewise than the first lap and the difference was 30 seconds.

I gotta be careful, because both shins are bothering me, not while running, but when I am not running and I touch the area, I can feel pain there, so need to watch out for that.

Decent humpday run

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:35 p.m. a bit late than planned.

This time around I wore a watch and did 5 laps there, got there in 7:32 feeling decent and then did 5 laps in 6:03,6:01,5:54,5:59,5:48. Sometimes felt good and sometimes felt tired, but overall felt strong!

38:56 total for 6.5k or so.

Tired watchless run

Today from the get go I felt tired, then after 800s or so I felt better, but that did not last too much  because soon after I felt tired again.  I ran watchless and headed out at 6:15 p.m.  and did 5 laps and some more.

Jose joined me when I had 2.5 laps and He finished the run with me. I was having a conversation with him, but sometimes I just could not finish a sentence well without huff and puff. The pace was easy enough, but it seems that I am tired.

The good news is that I ran watchless and only listened my body, did not race the watch as I some times do .

Zapping the zero: Watchless easy run

Yestereday I took the day off and was my only rest day of the week.

Today I started the week with an easy run without a watch. As I said the other day, I ll do runs without a watch and runs with a watch during the week, that is a smart thing to do and it gives you variety.

Today I headed out to the conservatory and did 5 laps very easy because I was still tired from past week. I listened to my body and slow it down when I started to huff and puff. However, after the 2nd lap I felt better and better.

Did around 6.5k. Feeling very decent!

Good end to the week

Today I ran early!!

A lot of time without running in the morning, but I ll watch a 10k race this evening, so I forced myself to get out there early. I have realized that when I am consistent with my running, I start to feel better , more confident, more positive, and can eat a bit more without feeling guilty.

Today I headed out without a watch to the conservatory with my father just before 7:00 a.m.My father is recovering from a tendonitis and He ran 2 miles for the first time in two months! I gapped him after 400s or so and never looked back. Did 5 laps and a bit more today at a very easy pace because I was very tired from the get go. I am not used to do my runs 12 hours apart, so when I do that I just feel very tired in the second run.

I ll try something this time around , to only wear a watch 3 times per week and ran without a watch 3 times per week. In the past I thought that I had to pick and choose between the two, but I think both have their place in training. In days like today you dont need a watch to tell you you are slugging and running very slow, the body is just telling so, and to pay attention to a watch and speed up when you are feeling run down its a recipe for disaster. Likewise, if you want to do a faster run or intervals and you want to hit a certain pace, the watch can be useful.

But in racing I dont recommend it, as you might know, I dont wear watch in races, sometimes I run bad and sometimes I run good. But I think that when you pay attention to the body you cant go wrong because you are giving your best on the given day.

6.5k watchless.

6 runs this week and I feel very happy about it. I ll rest till Monday for a new week of training and an increased week hopefully, but for me the most important thing is to run 6 times per week for a lot of weeks/months to really capitalize fitness and get in decent shape by December.

The streak continues

Ha!! that is not necessarily a streak that I am persuing, but I have run for 5 days in a row, so I am happy with that.

Today I headed out at 6:10 p.m. to the conservatory in 7:35 feeling pretty tired and dead in the legs, but the good news is that I could keep the pace and even speed up even on tired legs. Did 5 laps in 6:07,6:01,6:01,5:48,5:16. In the last lap I just kept the stride really short to conserve as much energy as possible, but in the second half of that lap I was huffing and puffing hard, even the breathing was very noisy. Then ran some more to complete the 38:30 for what I think was 6.5k or so.

As I said earlier I felt a bit tired today, but toughed it out and ran once again. I want to be in decent shape in December.

Another watchless run

Today I was feeling very sluggish at the time of my run, but I forced myself to go out and as soon as I started running that feeling went away and felt really good. Today I headed watchless again and kept my stride really short to conserve as much as energy as possible.

Did 5 laps again and some more to complete I think was 6.5k, I am starting to get hungry for more kms, so that is a good sign. I want to increase gradually and by December I want to be in very good shape. I was thinking that when I was skinny and ran my best times, other areas in my life were very good, now as I am overweight( that is a relative term of course) compared to where I was 5 years ago, things in other areas of my life are not that great.

Felt really good and I like the consistency of this week.

Great humpday watchless run

Today I headed out at 6:15 p.m. without a watch, I wanted to add one lap but at the same time not worry about splits or time. I did 5 laps and a bit more to complete what I think was 6.5k. Felt good and smooth. In my opinion, the run was not as slow as I wanted, but I just felt good and went with it. Weather was good and felt pretty decent.

The beauty of running

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:10 p.m. and got there in 7:03, then did 4 laps in 6:13,6:06,5:47,5:34, then completed the 33 mins.  Felt pretty good and in the first lap I passed a woman that looked pretty athletic, and then after the 2nd lap I heared steps and it was the same woman that I had passed early. She passed me agresively, but I sped up to match his surge and We continued that way for around 700m, then I built a gap and in the 3rd lap I looked behind and She was around 30m back,so I decided to pick the pace up even more, but never saw her again during the run.

When I came back to the park after buying my water bottle, I saw her walking and She looked at me and We both smiled, no words were sayed, but We both know that We had a good conversation during the run, changing leads and trying to catch up with one another. So I think that running is talking beyond words. That is what keep coming back to running, you cant have those conversations in the weight room or in other sports, that is what I like about my sport.

A lot of men out there tell to lift weights if you want to be a complete man, and to be alpha and all that stuff, its good to be strong in the upper body, but I think that running is more compelling than lifting weights and keep my confidence higher, when you have a good run you feel the owner of the world, when I am in the weight room, I dont feel that sense of accomplishment I get from running, so my advice to men out there is to find a compelling hobby that you keep coming back to it time after time. Running is that hobby for me, and running has been there for me for the past 13 years.

I am not an elite by any means, and I am not fast, I could be faster, but the beauty of running is that you dont have to run fast to enjoy it, just be out there smelling nature, feeling the lactic acid, feeling your heart pumping and the endorphins rolling are enough for me to come back day after day!!

Running is my passion!!

Zapping the zero

Yesterday I did not run for the same reasons that I have not been running on Sundays.

Today I headed out in the evening to the conservatory in 7:41, and then did 4 laps feeling pretty good to be honest. Laps were in 6:26,6:10,6:04,5:35. I really increased effort in the last one and in the last 2 laps I ran with Jose. After the 4th lap I did 30 more seconds before calling it a day in at 32:50. I ll add a lap tomorrow because I felt awesome today, nothing compared with Friday or Saturday where I struggled for most of the run.

5.4k in 32:45 or so. Felt very good!!

Blah run

Today I headed out at 6:15 p.m. to the conservatory in 7:28, faster tha I should, then did 4 laps in 6:21,6:14,6:04,6:03. During the first lap I told myself that I was going to call it a day in the 20 min mark. I started to feel really tired and experienced a strong side stitch. Luckily, after the 2nd lap I talked myself into a 3rd lap, and then decided to do the 4th lap. I think that runs like these is what build you up, when you are about to quit, but you keep going and going and never give up.

I did around 5.3k in 32;27, so 30 seconds faster than yesterday. But did not feel any better to be honest. Anyway, its done! and I am happy to have gotten my run in!! I need to be ready by December, since I want to run sub 23 mins in a 5k.

I AM back

Finally I am back to running. I said that I was coming back on Monday, but on Monday I got somewhat sick again, my eyes hurted and the back too, so rested a couple of more days. On Thursday I wanted to run, but I had a strong headache so rested too, so today I felt great and recovered and decided that today was going to be the day of my come back.

Today at 6:10 p.m. after 8 days with no running, I headed out to the conservatory in 7:41, feeling pretty slow, then did 4 laps in 6:25,6:14,6:10,6:10. At first I thought about doing only 20 mins because I was feeling dead and very tired, but after the second lap, things started to improve and I decided to do 4 laps. Total time was 32:57.

I am glad that I am back to it, I was driving crazy staying in my house, I really love the outdoors and that is the reason why I love running vs going to the gym, but strength training is important though!.

Around 5.3k in 32:57.

Health is the most important thing

I did not run yesterday, wont run today and wont run tomorrow.

Yesterday when I woke up at 4 a.m. to drink some water I felt very heavy and sick, nothing hurted me, but body weighed more than a marine Lion, so I knew something was not right. When I officially woke up at 7 a.m. I declared myself sick and pretty much lasted the whole day laid in bed. My food yesterday was an apple and half of a bread and a glass of coke. The apettite was totally off.

When I felt that bad and my eyes were heavy and hurted, I told to myself that health is the most important thing in the world, when you are sick you cant enjoy anything, and the only thing you think is when you actually are going to get better.

Today I am much better and I could ate normally so far, I wont run today because probably the body is still recovering.

Tomorrow I will be able to run, but wont due to the past events of robberies. Oh well!! sometimes to have to go with the flow and do the best you can!!

Health is the most imporant thing!!

Solid run

Today I decided to go out earlier so I could add a lap and finish earlier than usual.

I went out at 5:50 p.m. to the conservatory in 7:27 not that confortable, then did 6 laps in 6:12,5:54,5:53,5:50,5:47,5:48. I tried to keep relaxed for the most part, but sometimes huffed and puffed, its natural I think since my last 5k race I averaged 5:02 per km, so 5:45 or so is not that easy, but I like to train at that pace because I think I did not run all out in that race. Anyways,I  did 44:35 total and before the race in May I did not do a run longer than 40 mins so that is good.

I have to admit that I feel the shin at times, not like before but still something there.

Around 7.5k in 44:35. Felt good overall and sweat like a pig.

Good run

Yesterday I got lazy and did not run, my bad.

I spotted a race on September 6th , I want to do that 5k so will ramp my training a bit while staying healthy.

Today I went to the conservatory at 6:30 p.m. in 7:33, then did 5 laps in 6:05,6:01,5:55,5:53, then increased effort for the second half of last lap to finish in 5:27, then completed 38:30. Felt really smooth and good today. After that did some pull ups or at least I tried, I cant do 2 complete pull ups just yet, but at least I am trying, which is better than not trying at all.

6.5k total in 38:30.

Zapping the zero

As I said earlier , I ll have to take off some Sundays while the robbery problems decrease or dissapear altogether.

Today I went out with my brother watchless, He was taking the time, but after 500m I built a gap and would run ahead on and off since He started doing strides and passed me sometimes, but in the end his strides recovery were so slow and I passed him and built a gap, He is a out of shape for sure. I did 5 laps watchless feeling like s%%%t  and huffing and puffing, I sped up at times and that killed me. As soon as I started the run I knew that it was going to be tough.

Overall felt good but a bit tired. Did around 6.5k totak and I expect to run a bit longer tomorrow.

Evening good run

Yesterday I took the day off.

Today I went out to the conservatory at 6:10 p.m. or so, got there in 7:33, then did 5 laps there in 5:58,6:07,5:58,5:48,5:39. The atmosphere was great, great music and a lot of people there. I felt pretty good, but huffing and puffing sometimes. I am glad that I could get this run in since tomorrow I wont be able to run due to the robberies of past Sundays.

I decided to rest on Sundays until the situation improves. When I get off the course tomorrow I ll head to the Casa España club to get into the pool and to have a great time. I ll get back home at night when the thiefs have gone.

I felt good today and I did 6.5k in 38:30 or so. Next week I will run longer since the leg is much better and I can run with perfect form.

After the run, did some pull ups there, at least I could do 1.5 going completely down. I know that soon I ll be able to do 5+ reps.
