Tired evening run

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:20 p.m. and did 7 laps there , the slowest was first one in 6:07, the fastest the last one in 5:37, everything else was between that range. Completed the 50:30 for around 8.5k, basically the same as yesterday. I felt heavy and tired today, the tiredness was more mentally than physically, the heat was very strong though, I was sweating a lot before starting to run, summer is almost here and I can feel the heat already. All in all, happy to have run  once again. Tomorrow I ll rest because I am feeling a little pain in my right shin almost in my ankle.
On Friday I ll try to do something a bit fast, maybe 5 x 1 mins to test a bit the system. We will see, most important for me at this point is to lose some weight and keep running consistently.

Easy run with strides

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:10 p.m. and did 7 laps there easy, but in the last lap incorporated 4 x 20 seconds strides. splits were 6:18,6:04,5:45,5:52,5:56,5:55,5:36. In the last lap incorporated strides, but thought that it was going to be slower because the recovery parts were pretty slow, it seems that I hammer the on parts. Anyway, felt very tired at the end of each stride, a lot of huffing and puffing, people were staring at me when I passed them, because the noice of my breathing was high, anyway, did not feel that slow during the strides, so that is a good sign. 8.5k total in around 50:30. I ll incorporate strides more often into my training, its time to bounce back to faster stuff little by little.

Felt very happy to have the opportunity to run, not so much people can. Have a great night everyone!!

Catching up

I could not post my yesterday´s run because I had problems with my PC.

Yesterday´s run was good but it was like a roller coaster, started feeling pretty good, then started feeling tired, and then again felt pretty good. At 6:00 p.m. I went out to the conservatory, got there in 7:30 and then did 7 laps in 5:53,6:03,6:15,6:03,5:56,5:38,5:41. The first lap were with both Jose´s, that might explain that " fast " first lap, I say " fast" because is very rare that I do that time in the first lap, these days the first lap are well over 6 mins. Anyway, maybe the 2nd and 3rd lap were an indication that I was not warmed up yet, the last 2 laps were confortable. I felt good overall and the heat is increasing more and more each day. Around 8.5k total in 50:30 or so.

In the evening I ll do my second run of the week. Hope you have a great week of running!

Dark and light run

Yesterday I took the day off. My only rest day of the week.

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:10 p.m. with my brother and I did 7 laps, We basically ran the whole run together, but I sped up in the last lap. Splits per lap were 6:24,6:20,6:12,6:03,5:56,5:36,4:54. I started feeling like crap and feeling totally desmotivated, How was possible that after  a rest day I felt that crappy and tight. Well after the 3rd lap I started to loosen up and felt better and better, the faster I went the better I felt. That is the good thing about running, you can start feeling like crap and as the run progresses you start feeling better and better. The other way around is also true, but its very rare (in training at least). Put a good effort in the last lap. Around 8.5k total in around 51 mins. Felt great at the end, like crap at the beginning.

Workout dissapointment

I decided yesterday night that today I wanted to do a semi hard workout to see where I am at, a lot of months easy running with a " fast" lap here and there really doesn´t take you anywhere if you want to race fast and run confortable at faster paces unless you are running a lot of miles, which is not my case.

So today I ate lunch early , did not drink coke and mentally I was prepared to do my workout, At 6 p.m. I warmed up 20 mins very slow and easy, to the conservatory and did 1 lap and more to complete the 20 mins,  then stretched, wanted to do 3-4 laps at a fast pace ( for me it would be sub 5 mins each lap), I started hard, but within 200s of starting I could feel myself huffing and puffing and feeling heavy and slow and feeling very unconfortable, first lap was in 4:47, not bad, but I felt really fast,if I wanted to continue I had to slow down a bit, second lap felt hard as well, but the pace felt more managable, ha! 5:11 second lap for 9:58 for 2 laps, man that was my 15k race (4:48 per km) pace 6.5 years ago, after I saw that I call it a workout and started jogging for cool down for 3 more laps. Did around 8k total.

I feel dissapointed because I can run easy without problems, but whenever I try to run medium to hard effort I could feel the weight and my breathing going at 1000 times per min, that is not motivating. I ll do the same again next, hopefully that ll bring a different result.

Also is normal to feel like shit when you try to run fast after running easy for months. But the heavyness and fast breathing is something that is related to my weight I know for sure.

The positive side is that I am running consistently and enjoying my running all around.

Easy evening run

Headed out to the conseratory at  6:15p.m. and did  laps there, I just planned to do enough laps to call it a decent run. I have not rest this week so the idea was to just run and put in some miles. Today I :took the splits, got there in 7:30, then did 6 laps in 6:05 the slowest and 5:41 the fastest, felt really good, but felt full stomachwise at the beginning and in the last  25 seconds to finish the run I just did a stride and felt like a truck, felt the belly moving from side to side, wow, very slow!! at least I completed the 45 mins. Around 7.5k total.

The good streak continues

This evening I headed out at 6:10 p.m. to the conservatory and did 6 laps there. I ran with the watch on time of day, but the pace was on and each lap was faster than the last, I ran with Jose for about 2-3 laps. In the last few days, He would speed up and I would have to speed up a lot to catch him. This time around I took advantage of a downhill and speed up to test things out, I was feeling good so the possibility of burning out was rare. I surged about 3 times and He matched my move, but in the final move, I just left him behind and built a gap for a couple of laps, He ended up finishing his run a bit early due to a cramp. I finished my run at a very good pace, but only managed to do 6 laps and ran some more to complete the 42:30 in about 7.5k as an estimate. I felt strong and the weather was good. Fitness is coming back I think, I ll have to test myself with 2-3 laps sub 5 mins per km.

Good evening run

Today I headed out at 6:00 p.m.  to the conservatory and did 7 laps there with the watch on time of day, I ran with Jose for 5 laps, then did 2 on my own. We started very relaxed and then increased the pace by the end. I did around 8.5k in 50 mins. Then I started talking with my friends Jose and Alexis that also was there, not running , but appreciating the varying menu, Ha!!

I did feel pretty good today, especially in the later stages. Weather was good and felt strong!

Zapping the zero

This afternoon at 5:55 p.m. I headed out with my father to the conservatory, but I left him behing soon, luckily We were running in opposite directions in the conservatory so each lap We would see each other twice. I decided to run with the watch on time of day and just run, but as I did not eat too much yesterday I could run at a good rythm (no full stomach). I did 7 laps there and Jose Joined me after 3 laps, did 4 with him and I basically raced him in the last lap, as lately He pull away from me, and I catch him in the final downhill where I literally fly through it, I finished almost with hands on knees, was really huffing and puffing when I finished. I think I did that lap sub 5, but the effort was way harder than that. All in all felt good and I am eating less lately, That should translate into faster times later on. By now, I am enjoying my runs and the atmosphere that the park I run in presents.

Short run to finish up the week

Yesterday I did not run, some commitments in the schedule.

Today I ran at 4:00 p.m. I ran that early because I was going somewhere with the fam at 5:15 p.m. so I only was able to do 5.5k , put the watch on time of day and headed on to the conservatory and did 3 laps and back home, time was 33:29 and  I thought that I was going a lot faster, maybe the heat was so strong that I could barely run or the stomach belly going left and right had to do with it too. Felt strong at the end. Glad that I could run today even if it was a short run.

Good evening run

Yesterday I took the day off.

Today I headed out to the conservatory and when I got there in7:31, knew that it was going to be a good day, did 7 laps in 6:07,6:06,5:40,5:24,5:40,5:43,5:21. Did around 8.5k in 48 something. After the 3rd lap I just chased another guy that passed me, I never caught him. I felt really good today and the legs were very fresh. I cant say that I was running confortable, but felt a lot better than the past few runs where I just slugged around. Weather was acceptable.

Slow run with fast finish

Today I went out to the conservatory at 6:15 p.m. got there in 7:43, feeling very tight in the lower part of the leg, that tighness was there till the last couple of laps that I could loosen up a bit and speed up some. I ran with Jose for 5 laps. I did the first one on my own then He joined me and finished the run basically together. We did 3 laps slow and then He started to speed up, at that point I was not that tight so I sped up some too so that I did not lose any contact with him. He kept speeding up in the uphills and built a bit more distance on me, but I stayed patient and played my cards right, when I got to the flat sections I sped up and took advantage of the final downhill and could pass him in the last 15m of the run so I won. ha I was so focused on him that I forgot to take the last lap´s split. splits per lap were 6:22,6:29,6:19,6:18,5:44 and in the last one that I sped up a lot especially in the last 300s I think I did it in 5 flat or less, I really dont know, but when I sped up I felt smooth as opposed as when I started that felt totally slow and tight.

I did 45 mins total, around 7.5k, I am not feeling my best but at least I am getting my training in. I know that consistency will get me to feeling better soon.

Post no. 1000

Wow time passes by very quickly. I remember when I started this blog, it was October 2009. I started it for fun and today I am posting post no. 1000. It reflect that when people do things little by little overtime it becomes a big result. That applies to all areas of life, for example if you read 5-10 pages of a book day by day, eventually you will read several books without having to sacrifice much. The same with exercise, you do the work day by day, one day at  time, one day you ll accomplish your goal. Valuable things dont come overnight, you have work day by day, and see it as one day at a time, to really get results. If you think about the result as a whole, you might get frustrated and quit getting in the work. If you see it as a day to day process, you wont get caught about the desire results. Its good to visualize results, but you got to really enjoy the process to get  the desired result. What a big rambling!!

Today I headed out to the conservatory at 6:20 p.m. and soon after starting, started pouring lightly, then increased, but that did not bother me the least, I did 7 laps in 6:15,6:04,6:01,6:02,5:53,5:57,5:55. I ran almost a lap( the first lap) with Jose, but when Roalbert passed us , Jose went with him and they started gaining on me very fast until they were none to be seen. I basically ran alone for the remaining of the run. I got a bit upset because I felt very heavy and bad in the first 3 laps, then started loosening up , no one to blame but me, Yesterday I decided to improve my diet and eat cleaner. I was not running too slow, but they were running around 5:10-5:20 so that was enough to gap me right away. With patience I ll get the results that I want, at least I am training and getting my runs in. 8.5k around 51 mins. Felt good at the end, at the beginning felt the juice that I drank during the day, it seems that I ll have to eliminate all sugary beverages before evening runs.

Zapping the zero

Today I went out running at 6:10 p.m., I did not drink coke during the day and my lunch was very light, so I was starving throughout the afternoon, but in the run I felt great, felt very smooth and did not feel fat and with all that gas inside me. I ran 5 laps with Jose at a ver good clip, the last 2.5 laps were I cannot say easy, We were pushing each lap faster than the last, I did around 28 mins for 5 laps, I was running without a watch because I borrowed it to my Brother who was doing a workout. After those " fast" 5 laps I did 2 more at a very easy pace to complete the 8.5k. Felt good, but after the run felt very hungry and was not feeling very good. Now I ll grab something to eat. Short run to cap the week

Yesterday took the day off.

Today at 6:25 p.m. I headed out to the conservatory and did 5 laps at a very slow pace, not by purpose, but because all the food that I ate today ( fried food) and coke. I have done a commitment with myself , tomorrow I ll start to eat healthier and to eliminate fried food considerably. A lot of people tell me that I am fatter and my brother insist that I am very wide( wristwise). I am running slow and when I am trying to run fast and become airless very soon, that must be the weight :). Today I did 5 laps in 6:22,6:23,6:29,6:18,6:14. Very slow and with a full stomach for most part of the run. Anyways, I completed the 40 mins feeling confortable. The weather was good and the atmosphere there was good too, a lot of kids playing and skating and driving toy cars, etc.

5 runs this week, I have been consistent but as long as I dont control my portion and quality of food, I wont get anywhere.

Better evening run

Yesterday I complained because of the way that I have been feeling. Today I decided to wear a watch to see if the splits were consistent with the effort and to distract myself a little,its great to run by effort, but when you feel like crap its not so fun to run by effort, so I decided to wear the watch and busy the mind in the numbers stuff. Did 5 laps in 6:24,6:20,6:03,5:53,5:56. Felt like crap in the first 2 laps as the splits suggest, then kind of loosened up and felt better. I was running with Jose but in the 3rd lap He pulled away because I had to stop several times to tie my shoes. I had to tie my right shoe during the run 6 times. That is the first time that I have to do it so many times, in fact its quite rare to do that even once during running.  The weather was rainy, even started puring a bit during the run, but the real heavy rain fell after the run, We stayed under roof for more than an hour I think, joking and laughing. Completed the 40 mins and I went out to do around 32-33 mins(4 laps).

The bad running streak continues

This evening at 6:20 p.m. I headed out to the conservatory and did 7 laps there, not much to report other than I felt like s#$"#T once again, felt very heavy and never got into a groove except maybe in the last lap. I Felt fat and to top things a person that I see everyday when I run the big hill 500s out my home told me today " You run everyday but you also are fatter" He said it in a way that by no means was offensive and I only laughed and said " I am eating just too much" He replied back that I needed to decrease portions. I was not angry at that moment, but when in the conservatory I felt so fat and out of shape and full I realized that it was all my fault and I was the only one to change that shitty behavior. When I quit coke for a month or so (well not quit but decreased it significantly), I was feeling real light during runs and felt real good, but as I am drinking around 4-5 16 oz glasses during the day before my runs, I think that is the reason of my shitty performance even when you running pretty easy. I ll have to decrease the amount and save that for the weekends. I do better do that so that I dont look like a fool next time I complaint about feeling bad during runs.

Its normal to feel bad on some runs, but I have been feeling this way since Saturday and casually all runs has been after a coke drinking marathon. Oh well!!  No more complaints!

Blah evening run

Today I went out to the conservatory at 6:00 p.m. feeling not good, but not bad either. Definately I dont want to  feel like this on a regular basis, maybe its due to all the coke that I have been drinking during the day before my runs. I did 7 laps in the conservatory without a watch and ran with Jose for 1 lap and something because in my last lap I dropped him. He was not feeling very confortable and when He finished He looked really tired. The heat was strong today eventhough that it was cloudy. I ll have to drop the coke once again, because I think the reason I am feeling mediocre during my runs is the excess consumption before my runs. Around 8.5k total untimed.

Zapping the zero: Rainy evening

Yesterday took the day off.

Today I was out at 6:05 p.m. to the conservatory and did 7 laps there, and some more to complete the roughly 8.5k. I ran watchless. The first 4 laps were a struggle, felt like s#%"#%t, very tight and heavier than a truck. In the 5th lap I was able to looseend it up and feel better.  Rained very hard in half of the run, and I felt like an athlete because I was there braving the elements. Basically I was the only one running there, because other people exercising covered from the rain and hide below a roof. I just got on like the rain was part of the process, in fact, as soon as the rain started I felt much better and the tightness in my calves dissapeared.

Catching up

Yesterday I ran in the evening at 5:30 p.m., I was a bit worried during the day because the left knee was bothering, luckily when I started running that was not a problem and I could do 7 laps in the conservatory with no problems. I ran without a watch, but Jose took my time in the last 5 laps (5 kms), it was 29:26, I thought that I was running slower. Poured a bit during the run, but not much. Felt good and happy to have gotten my run in as always. 8.5k total.

Today I ran in the morning at 9:00 a.m., I convinced my father to go out with me, We only ran 1 km or so together, because I went ahead and then in the conservatory We were running in opposite directions, but We saw twice each lap. We both gave each other words of encouragement because the heat was strong, We both were spent early in the run. However, I battled it out and did 6 laps and then back home. In the last lap I did 4 x 100s strides, the strides were at a good rythm but the effort was higher than I would have liked and felt very heavy. Maybe the fact that my last run was around 14 hours ago had to do with how I felt today. All in all, I am happy that I did my 8.5k today given the strong heat. Ran watchless again. As i have said before, I am liking these watchless runs, you just focus on how you feel and run.

This was a good week of running, 5 runs this week and I am increasing the length of my runs a bit. The next planned race is around 1 month out.

Rainy evening run

Today ran pretty hard before the run, and it  lasted a lot. I could get out the door at 6:15 p.m and was out to the conservatory with my brother Dan, He was doing sqauts pre run so I dropped him inmediately, I got out at my normal pace, but He went out ridiculous slow. I was running watchless, but He took the time that I did it in some laps. Dan caught me exactly at the 3.2k point because He  did that lap in 4:50, then He stopped and I continued to complete my 7 laps. I was going to do 6, but was feeling pretty good that decided to add 1 more lap as in past few days. According to Dan watch I was running from 6.02 to 5.57 laps and increased the effort in the last lap, basically ran strong on the straight and ran at a controlled effort in the uphills, I did not want to red line. Last lap came in 5:04, thought that I was running slower. I am very happy with the way that I am feeling the last 2 weeks. To be honest I am enjoying a lot this watchless thing, its great to run according to the body´s signals. Maybe I ll get back to watch wearing running, but by now I ´m enjoying this watchless thinga lot. I ll throw faster stuff next week, an unstructured fartlek. Around 8.5k total.

Very easy watchless evening run

Today I headed out at 6:00 p.m. to the conservatory watchless, and did 7 laps to the conservatory at an easy pace, very easy to be honest. The first 3 laps were effortwise easy, then sped up a bit naturally, but overall kept the run very easy. Felt really good after the halfway point. Its good to just unplug and run easy to get the desired mileage, instead of pushing each lap to a finishing sprint. 8.5k total.
